A long, very shallow bay where people coat themselves in black mud for their joints and skin, then wash it off further out. The water is very warm, there are pay car parks by the beach (free unpaved parking further along the bay) and a beach bar in summer. Children love it; the sulphur smell can cling to skin and swimwear for a day, and the bottom is slimy and slippery.
Our tips
Wear old swimwear: the sulphur smell lasts about 24 hours.
You wade 50–300 m before it is deep enough to swim, which suits toddlers and non-swimmers.
Locals swim here well into September.
Let the mud dry on your skin for 10–20 minutes rather than longer, and skip it on sunburn, cuts or sensitive skin.
Plan a proper shower afterwards: the mud is hard to rinse off in the sea alone, and the beach showers are paid.
Bring an umbrella or rent one: there is no natural shade on the beach.
Dogs are not allowed here; the dog beach is in Sv. Petar cove, between Čižići and Rudine.
