Quick answers

Which beaches on Krk have natural shade?

Pine shade: the coves along the Paradise path between Malinska and Njivice, Jert, Koralj by Krk Town, Komoriška in Soline Bay and the Prniba coves near Punat. Vrbnik's Secret Beach lies in deep shade from early afternoon. Most other Krk beaches have little or none, so bring or rent an umbrella.

Which Krk beaches are best for small children?

Soline Bay is very shallow and warm; Sv. Marak near Risika and Pećine at Šilo are sandy and shelve gently; Komoriška is a small sand beach in pine shade. For every service close at hand: Baška Vela plaža, Punta Debij in Punat, and Medane, which has a small pool and a play area.

Are there sandy beaches on Krk?

Krk is mostly pebble. Sand: Sv. Marak, Pećine at Šilo, Komoriška and Soline Bay; Punta Debij in Punat mixes fine sand and pebbles. Oprna, Zala, Potovošće, Javna and Melska have pebbles on the shore and sand under the water.

Where can I swim with a dog on Krk?

On the dog beaches: Mala Javna north of Vrbnik, Redagara east of Krk Town, Zarok at the end of Baška Vela plaža, and Mala Krasa in Punat. Camp Škrila beach at Stara Baška has a dog section, and the Paradise path has dog beaches at both ends. Dogs are not allowed at Soline's mud beach or at Zgribnica.

Where is the best sunset on Krk?

On the west coast, facing Cres: Jert at Pinezići, the Glavotok coves and the Rova coves near Malinska. On the Vrbnik side the coast faces east, so the evening light falls on the mainland across the channel instead.

Which Krk beaches can you only reach by boat?

Golden Beach under the yellow cliffs (boats from Punat or Stara Baška) and Pod Črnice south of Vrbnik. Vela Luka and Mala Luka near Baška are reached by boat or on a hike over the hill.

Which beaches have parking right by the water?

Soline Bay (gravel parking in front of the beach), Sv. Marak (a large paid car park above), Medane in Punat (large car parks beside it) and Zgribnica in Vrbnik (EUR 2 an hour in summer). At Oprna the roadside spaces fill early in summer, and Zala has only a small paid car park.

Beyond Krk, on our day trips

Not on the island, but worth the trip: each is part of one of our day trips from Krk.

  1. Sveti Ivan West Cres
  2. Rajska plaža Lopar

Sveti Ivan (Luka) beach below Lubenice

Beach · West Cres, below Lubenice

The bay under Lubenice's 378 m ridge, reached by a narrow, steep path of about 40–45 minutes down and more than an hour back up. There are no facilities at all. The Blue Grotto (Plava grota) sea cave is in the neighbouring Žanja bay: swim in from the beach there, or come by boat.

Our tips

  • Go down early, before the heat, and carry more water than you think; the climb back is the hard part.
  • Non-hikers can do it by boat from Cres town (tours or a rented boat).

Good to know

  • Hard return climb in heat; not with small children.
  • No shade, water or bar on the beach.

Rajska plaža (Paradise Beach), Lopar

Beach · Lopar, north Rab

A 1.5 km beach of natural sand, rare in Kvarner, six minutes from the Lopar ferry. It is fully equipped, with rows of sunbeds, beach bars, pedalos and water slides at the southern end, so it suits families with small children far better than couples looking for quiet.

Our tips

  • Couples who want quiet sand: Lopar also has smaller sandy coves; nudism is permitted at Sahara and Ciganka, and Stolac is naturist-only.
  • Take the 07:45 ferry from Valbiska (2026 timetable; arrives about 09:05) and you are on the sand before the day visitors.
