The Romanesque church where the Baška tablet was found in 1851: a white limestone slab of about 1100, carved in Glagolitic script, that records King Zvonimir's gift of land and is the first text to name Croatia and its king in Croatian. The original has been in the Croatian Academy in Zagreb since 1934; here you see a copy of the tablet, a replica of Paolo Veneziano's St Lucy polyptych and a short documentary.

Our tips

  • Tickets are sold in the small yellow building down the stairs from the church, not at the church door.
  • In summer the courtyard hosts concerts of the Baška guitar festival and the Dobro Est Fest (July) - the setting at night is the real draw.
  • Kids can join the Glagolitic school for children held here in summer, usually in mid-July (dates in the Baška summer programme).

Good to know

  • Paid entry.
