From Vrbnik, the wooden boat Curicta spends 6 h on the east coast, with Mala Luka, Vela Luka and the vulture cliffs.
What can children do on Krk?
The Adriatic Aquarium in Baška has more than 100 Adriatic species and stays open into the late evening in July and August; at DUBoak in Malinska children build a boat and try the VR. At Zipline Edison near Treskavac, children under 12 ride with an instructor, and teenagers can ride Wakeboard Cable Krk in Punat bay.
Where can I go diving on Krk?
Dive Loft Krk in Vrbnik dives shore house reefs such as Secret Beach, with a wall to about 30 m, and runs shore try-dives from EUR 89 (2026). Certified divers can visit the Peltastis wreck north of Šilo, a Greek freighter that sank in 1968 and lies at about 15 to 33 m.
Where can I kayak or paddleboard on Krk?
The SUP loop around Punat bay is a sheltered 7.3 km paddle (2–2.5 h) around the islet of Košljun, suited to a first outing; start from the beaches south of Punat, and do not land on Košljun. By sea kayak you can reach the Love Cave on Plavnik: go outside the 10:00–15:00 group-boat window for a quieter visit.
Where can I see griffon vultures on Krk?
Over the Baška plateau, around the Kuntrep reserve (protected since 1969): the best chance is on the Moon plateau, the Diviška trail or the Veli vrh summit, with binoculars, from mid-morning once the thermals form. The Curicta boat from Vrbnik passes the reserve's vulture cliffs; sightings are not guaranteed.
Skippered day sail from Marina Punat (and sailing courses)
Sea & boats · Marina Punat
Marina Punat is one of Croatia's large marinas. A full-day skippered sail on a Dolphin 50 ('Amica') takes up to 10 people, 10:00–18:00, for about EUR 950–1,100 per boat (2026; confirm the price when booking). It follows Krk's coast towards Cres or Rab with swim stops, and motors if the wind drops. Punat also has intensive sailing courses, 2-day basic courses and beginner skipper training.
Our tips
The skipper training is the legal route for guests who want to drive a boat themselves later.

An uninhabited island between Krk and Cres, administered by the town of Krk. Half-day boat trips from Punat and Krk Town visit it for its coves, swim-in caves, sea bream, deer and griffon vultures, with dolphins sometimes on the way. Some tours include an admission fee for Plavnik in the price (2026).

A bura day can still work with an experienced skipper; let the skipper decide.
Good to know

Experience · Plavnik island (uninhabited), between Krk and Cres
A small sea cave on Plavnik with a hole in the roof that lights the water blue, and a tiny pebble beach inside. Boats anchor outside and you swim in; it is a shallow site that snorkellers can also enjoy. It is about 60–70 m long and lies at about 15 to 33 m; the holds (about 23–27 m) are accessible and the structure is well preserved. It is an intermediate dive, suited to Advanced Open Water training. Locals call it 'Grk' (the Greek).
Our tips
Dive centres in Šilo and Vrbnik (Dive Loft Krk) run boat trips to it.
It is also dived at night, for the conger eels.
Good to know
The water can be cold and visibility poor in strong current.
SUP loop around Punat bay and Košljun (look, don't land)
Sea & boats · Punat bay
A sheltered 7.3 km paddle (2–2.5 h) around the enclosed bay of Punat and the monastery islet of Košljun, starting from the beaches south of Punat, Punta Debij or Medane. It suits a first SUP outing; keep close to the shore, as the marina has more than 1,000 boats and the strait is narrow.

Snorkelling trips: vulture cliffs, bat cave and hidden Stara Baška coves
Non-divers can ride along on dive boats to some fine snorkelling. 'Geierfels' (vulture rock) on Plavnik has small caves and tunnels at 1–15 m, including a Bat Cave entered at about 1 m, with griffon vultures on the cliffs above. The Love Cave is another stop. A separate swimming and snorkelling tour of Stara Baška's hidden beaches costs from EUR 45 (2026).
Our tips
Dive Center Krk (Kornić) and Dive Loft Krk (Vrbnik), one company, take non-divers along on their boat day trips for EUR 45 (2026).
Good to know
Boats should keep their distance from the vultures' nesting cliffs.

Krk was a heartland of the Glagolitic script: the Baška tablet (c. 1100), the Vrbnik Statute (1388), a charter of 1100 naming Dobrinj and Vrbnik, and many Glagolitic stone inscriptions. A self-drive day links the main sites.
Our tips
South loop from Stara Baška: Sv. Dunat (roadside) - Jurandvor (tablet replica) - Baška stone-letter trail - Sv. Ivan above Baška.
North loop from Vrbnik: Vrbnik (library, printing house, St Martin's chapel of 1561 with its Glagolitic inscription) - Sv. Vid Dobrinjski (1100 charter) - Dobrinj sacral collection - Gabonjin letter path - Omišalj (Glagolitic inscription of 1535 at Veli Dvor 11).
West add-on: Glavotok (kept the first printed Glagolitic missal of 1483) and Porat (copies of the oldest inscriptions).

Where to hear klapa and sopile and see the tanac dance
Experience · Island-wide
Krk's own sound is the sopile (a pair of double-reed shawms, one large and one small) accompanying the 'tanac' couple dance, plus a cappella klapa singing. The reliable way to catch them is through fixed programme slots rather than chance.
Our tips
Krk Town, Triola Kamplin Fest: the 'Celebrate Local' Tuesday evenings bring tanac and klapa (late June to August).
Baška: the Ribarski dani fishermen's festival (first weekend of August) has featured the tanac danced to sopile, and there are klapa evenings on the Palada in July and August.
Malinska: the KUU Dubašnica folklore group holds a summer folklore evening on Trg Ivana Klobučarića (in 2026 on 17 July).
Omišalj: 'Omišaljska rozeta', a women's klapa festival every 4 August.
Vrbnik: a summer series of Wednesday evening concerts that has included klapa; check the programme.
Good to know
The sopile tradition belongs to the 'two-part singing and playing in the Istrian scale' on UNESCO's list (2009); the tanac dance itself is not UNESCO-listed.
Small aquarium in Baška with 21 tanks (35 m³ of sea water), more than 100 Adriatic species (octopus, lobster, grouper, catshark) and a large collection of Adriatic shells and snails.

Where
Baška
Season
Roughly April to October; longest hours in July and August
The island's heritage is small-scale and hands-on, which suits children if you make a game of it.
Our tips
Letter hunt: find the Glagolitic stone letters in the Baška valley with the tourist-office booklet; then the Gabonjin letter path.
Dobrinj square: find the 1738 stone face, the horse head and the stone tax measures.
Košljun: the two-headed lamb, the one-eyed lamb and the boa in the ethnographic room.
DUBoak Malinska: build a boat and try the VR.
Fulfinum-Mirine: QR games since 2026, gladiators at Antički dani in July.

Rainy-day plans (north and south)
Experience · Island-wide
Krk has no big indoor attraction, but a string of small ones works well if you plan around their hours: one loop for the north of the island, one for the south.
Our tips
North: Vrbnik library and museums (call the tourist office first) - Dobrinj sacral and ethnographic collections - Biserujka cave (around 15 °C; closed November–March) - DUBoak in Malinska (Sundays 10:00–15:00, 2026).
South: Košljun museums (to 15:00 from November to March) - Stari Toš in Punat - Kornić ethnographic house (phone first) - Krk castle (closed in winter) - the aquariums in Krk and Baška.
In Baška, the Adriatic aquarium stays open into the evening in July and August.
