Javna (Vela Javna)

Tested by us We have been here ourselves.

Wide pebble beach with a sandy seabed about 4–5 km from Vrbnik on the partly unpaved road that runs right along the sea to Sv. Marak. No café, no showers, no loungers, and therefore few people; limited parking and open to the wind. A good pick for an empty beach about 15 minutes' drive from Vrbnik.

Our tips

  • Drive the coast road north from Vrbnik and stop at whichever of Javna, Mala Javna or Melska looks emptiest.
  • Bring your own shade and water; there is nothing here.
  • Go on a calm day; it faces the open channel.
  • Park on the small free roadside above the beach and walk the last stretch down the narrow road; come early in July and August.
  • Wear water shoes: there are rocky patches and sea urchins between the pebbles.
  • With a dog, use Mala Javna, the dog beach right next door.

Good to know

  • No shade, no facilities.
  • Exposed to wind.
  • Slow narrow road with gravel sections.
