Kornić and the head of Punat bay (Sv. Dunat)

A quiet inland village and, below it at the head of the bay, a small domed early church, a warm family beach and a wakeboard cable.

Open this guide on The Krk Map

From the D102 between Krk Town and Punat, Kornić is easy to miss, and so is the tiny cross-shaped, domed church of St Donatus, standing by the water at the innermost point of Punat bay. Below the village the sheltered inner bay gives warm, calm water, a Blue Flag beach and a cable park where teenagers ride while parents watch from a terrace. Up in the village there is a square with a café and a konoba, the church where the Camino Krk ends, a shaded trim trail through woods and olive groves, and a family sheep-cheese farm a few minutes away in Lakmartin. It is a stop on the way rather than a destination, and a very good one from Vrbnik (12 minutes).

When to come: Beach and cable 1 May to October; the ethnographic house opens on summer evenings only (15 June-13 September). The church and trails all year.

What to do

Stop at St Donatus, the domed church by the water

A small church of Old Croatian architecture in a Byzantine manner: a cross-shaped plan under a dome, faced with small squared stones. Its style points to the 9th century, while the inscription in front of it gives the 12th; it was in use until the 16th century. Its altar, statue, mosaics and frescoes are lost. The Austrian conservator Anton Gnirs restored it fully in 1914. At the end of the Second World War an explosion of ammunition stored nearby badly damaged it, above all the dome, and the architect Aleksandar Freudenreich rebuilt it three years later into what you see today.

Where
At the head of Puntarska draga, where the roads to Punat, Kornić and Krk meet.
When
Any time; a 10–15 minute stop between Krk Town and Punat
Time

How
Pull off into the car park beside it: a 100-space pay lot (coins, cards or the Bmove app) and a free 60-space lot next to it. Take care on the D102: traffic is fast.

Tip: Walk round it slowly: the interest is the plan and the dome, not decoration. Then walk the few metres to the shore for the view down the bay to Košljun.

Swim at Dunat and watch the wakeboarders

A pebble beach, also called Galapagos beach, between St Donatus church and Malo More cove. Its relatively warm water suits families. Next door, Wakeboard Cable Krk pulls wakeboarders and water-skiers round the bay; parents sit on its beach pub terrace while teenagers ride.

Where
Dunat beach, between the St Donatus chapel and the Malo More cove; the cable park is next door.
When
2026: cable 1 May to October 10:00–20:00, pub 08:00–24:00. Beach June–September; late afternoon for the cable show.

Tip: Beach bar Galapagos is open all day into the night (08:00–02:00 in 2026): quiet by day, livelier with music in the evening.

The shaded trim trail from the village down to St Donatus

Kornić's 3.8 km trim trail runs through shady woods and olive groves, with fitness stations along the way, and ends at St Donatus looking across to Košljun and Punat. For a longer walk, the Olive Path (Put maslina, route 122) loops 9.5 km from Krk via Kornić, Muraj and Lakmartin, and the 7 km 'Sylvan circle' from St James adds the village folk house.

Where
Start at St James parish church in Kornić; the trail runs down to St Donatus.
When
Any time; mostly shaded, so it works in summer (mornings and evenings best)
Time

How
Easy forest and olive-grove paths. Free parking by the church in Kornić.

Tip: Walk it down to Sv. Dunat, swim at Dunat beach, and walk back up in the evening shade.

The small square (Placa) in the upper village: coffee at Ča, burek from the Ilirija bakery, and the parish church of St James the Apostle, where the 150 km Camino Krk pilgrim route finishes after its last 21.4 km stage from Baška via Jurandvor, Batomalj and Punat.

Where
Placa, Kornić's small square: café Ča at Placa 32 and Konoba Marea at Placa 13; Pekara Ilirija is at Gorinje Nerzice 2.
